Khasra, Khata, Khewat and Intkal — reading a Kashmir property record
Khasra identifies a field or parcel in the revenue record; Khata and Khewat relate to recorded holdings and interests. Mutation, often called Intkal or Inteqal, records a change. Read these references as a connected description, not as interchangeable property numbers.
What to examine
The village or estate name matters because a number alone may not identify the land. Min or subdivision references, area and recorded shares can change the comparison. A glossary helps decode a document, but it cannot establish that an extract is current, genuine or applicable to the parcel being sold.
Records to collect
- Full revenue extract
- estate or village details
- mutation references
- map and subdivision record
Keep complete, dated copies and preserve originals. Note which records are missing and where they may be requested; do not alter a document to fill a gap in the history.
The applicable framework
For Kashmir property, the revenue entry, registered instrument, physical possession and underlying legal right should be examined separately. Different issues can require different authorities or civil relief. A service directory explains available services but does not replace the governing statute, current notification or an order in the particular matter.
A practical next step
Write one complete property description using all relevant identifiers. Compare that description across the deed, record and site before interpreting the names and shares.
